Smoothie King Used ChatGPT to Print a Promotional Romance Novel

While many people are still trying to figure out exactly how cryptocurrencies and NFT’s work, the debate about the usefulness and ethics of AI technology is ongoing.

From a promo perspective, there are, theoretically, plenty of uses for AI in terms of art and content creation, but there aren’t many case studies in that realm yet.

However, Smoothie King is using the ChatGPT platform to combine the cutting edge technology with traditional print by enlisting the program to create a 300-page branded romance novel.

Yep, that’s right, like the ones you see at by the grocery store checkout with the cheesy artwork. That kind of romance novel. And it counts as a promotional campaign, too.

The whole thing is based around the release of a new Watermelon Lemonade flavor, and centers around a “mysterious traveler” named Walter Melone.

The book includes secrete codes that give readers a chance to win prizes, too, so you need to read it carefully.

“These smoothies are fun, and bursting with extreme summer flavors, so it only made sense to pair them with an extremely playful campaign,” said Smoothie King chief marketing officer Marianne Radley in a press release.

Wondering what that sounds like? Here’s an excerpt:

As Millie enjoyed the sweet, juicy peaches, she caught a glimpse of something shiny moving quickly through the field. She squinted her eyes and realized it was Walter Melone’s fancy sports car. At first, her heart skipped a beat with excitement, but then annoyance quickly set in. This was her safe space, her peaceful ride, and the loud sports car was anything but peaceful.

To make matters worse, there was a strange, unrecognizable noise emanating from the car. It sounded like robots fighting each other, and it only added to Millie’s frustration. She couldn’t understand why Walter had to drive through here, disrupting the tranquility of the fields.

It is very playful. You wouldn’t think the best way to reach potential customers in this day and age would be a book, but it has longevity that some other items don’t, and the AI-generated nature of it piques interest. People want to see exactly how AI created a whole romance novel related to a smoothie.

Platforms like ChatGPT and other AI programs will no doubt have a place in promo in the near future. Whether or not they are romance novels remain to be seen.
